Welcome to our home. We're Sylvie Savage and Jeff Snea, proud owners of The Rustic Treehouse Hideaway Bed & Breakfast.

I was born and raised in the small francophone community of Sturgeon Falls and my husband Jeff was raised in Astorville. Although we left for several years to pursue post secondary education and career opportunities, we returned to our roots to settle down and start a family. We have 2 children; our daughter Avery and our son Rylan. We also have our dog Bruno and cats Ziggy & Zoe. We love camping, spending time outdoors and creating new memories as a family.

The tourism and hospitality business is a new adventure for our family.

Building a treehouse was always one of my husbands' childhood dreams. Once he had children of his own and the world was being faced with the COVID-19 pandemic, he wanted to create a magical space for his family to enjoy, and started building the treehouse in the summer of 2021. The treehouse was meticulously crafted using a variety of materials including recycled wood, steel roofing, and logs from the surrounding forest. ​

In October 2023, an arm injury and subsequent surgery led to my husband having to take some well deserved time off from work . We took this opportunity to complete the finishing touches on the treehouse so it would be ready for others to enjoy.

We started renting our treehouse on short term rental platforms in the winter of 2024 and had great success, attracting guests from far and wide. Due to local short term rental bylaws, and the desire to become recognized as more than a short term rental, our treehouse was removed from STR platforms in Sept 2024, and we began the process of registering as a bed and breakfast and converting our treehouse into a legal secondary unit. We were also winners of the North Eastern Ontario Spark Program which helped motivate us to fulfill our vision.

Although the overall esthetic of our treehouse had to evolve to meet the standards of the Ontario Building code, we are now pleased to offer additional living space including a seasonal bathroom and separate kitchen area.
